    Front line heroes

While the COVID-19 pandemic has upended life for nearly everyone, first responders, healthcare workers, and other essential workers have had to face more risks than most.  One of those front line heroes is Rachel Hensley, who is the daughter of Rj Link Int. owners.

Rachel Hensley, MSN, RN, OCN, CNL, associate manager of patient care in the Central DuPage Hospital Medical Care Center, arrived at Northwestern Medicine almost three years ago.  Rachel was given the task of managing three units of the center. Her latest initiate has been a quality improvement project in Oncology that focuses on growth and multidisciplinary collaboration, a project she’s excited to see come to fruition.

When two of Rachel’s floors became COVID-19 units, she put the project on hold, put on her hospital-issued scrubs and stepped up to the bedside to support her staff.  She has not taken a patient assignment, but is available to help her team triage when necessary.  “I’ve always loved bedside nursing, and I wanted to hop in whenever staff needed me,” she says.  “I didn’t think it was fair to send nurses into these rooms if I wasn’t going in too.  It turns out, there’s no place I’d rather be.”

Rachel is quick to recognize her team members who continue to inspire her with their initiative, collaboration and dedication to Patients First Care.  All of us at Rj Link International are so grateful to Rachel, and all those who are on the front lines battling COVID-19, doing everything they can to help our families, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
