• Gearbox Design – Power from Point A to B

In today’s market it is all about power density, and figuring out how to get from Point A to Point B in the shortest distance and most efficient manner.  Achieving this is not always as simple as you think.  There are some big diesel engine systems out there, and the majority of them have a sweet spot for the most efficient operation.

An example of this is from a recent inquiry where a customer’s Point A was at 1800 RPMs at 800 HP, and they needed to drive something at 3600 RPM’s at 800 HP (Point B). A speed increasing gearbox was going to be needed at a 1:2 ratio.  More often than not, there will be certain space limitations that also need to be considered when starting the design process.  In this example, Rj Link’s team was able to provide a custom gearbox solution with the D244 design that fit within the space requirements.  That gearbox solution also provided for the torsional transfer of power that was needed in the customer’s application.
